In April of 2023, I made a week-long trip to Peru. I went on a tour. While it was a quick trip, I felt like we had a good balance of staying busy and having time to relax.
On day 1, we did some sightseeing in Lima, the capital city.

One day 2, we went to the coast at Paracas, then to the desert in Ica, and then to the oasis of Huacachina. I got to ride in a dune buggy, go sand-boarding, and see some penguins. A full day of fun.

On day 3, we made our way to Cusco. We flew there. The flight was included in the tour. The flight only took about an hour. The alternative was to take a 22-hour bus ride from Lima. Yikes!

On day 4, we visited Chinchero, Moray, and Maras. Chinchero is a town containing both colonial and Incan architecture. Moray is the location of Incan circular cultivation terraces. Maras is the location of salt mines. Then we went on to Ollantaytambo, where we took the train to Aguas Calientes. I enjoyed the hot springs in Aguas Calientes.

On day 5, we explored Machu Picchu. There is so much to see at this amazing site.

On day 6, we hiked to Rainbow Mountain. With an elevation of 15,000 feet, it was not an easy climb, but well worth it.

On day 7, I flew from Cusco back to Lima, and then back home.
Peru is a land rich in cultural heritage, natural beauty, and unique cuisine. I’m glad that I was able to experience it, if only for a short time.
