As I mentioned on my Asia page, I lived and worked in Japan as an English teacher for 5 years. After my time there, I moved to South Korea, where I also worked as an English teacher. All told, I lived and worked in Seoul, the capital city, for 7 years.
Seoul is a big city, and there is a lot to see there. I enjoyed visiting the five palaces: Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Deoksugung, and Gyeonghuigung. I also enjoyed visiting the Bukchon Hanok Village.

Other notable places in Seoul are the Namsan Tower (N Seoul Tower), the 63 Building, the Insadong shopping district, and the parks along the Han River.

A few hours away from Seoul is the city of Suwon, with its impressive Hwaseong Fortress.

South Korea’s second most populous city, after Seoul, is Busan. It is located on the southeastern coast. It has beaches, temples, and unique cityscapes.

Another fascinating city in South Korea is Gyeongju. It has numerous cultural sites. It is an ancient capital of Korea.

South Korea has 22 national parks. I have been to a few of them. The three that I liked the most were Seoraksan, Jirisan, and Juwangsan.

One of the most extraordinary places in South Korea is Jeju Island. It has good food, natural beauty, and fun activities like submarine rides. It is also home to South Korea’s tallest mountain, Hallasan.

There is much to see in Korea, and the best time to explore Korea is in the early hours of the day, for it truly is the Land of the Morning Calm.
