Aaron's Travels

While I mainly went to New Zealand to visit a friend, I ended up learning a great deal about the country and enjoyed many of the things that it has to offer.

New Zealand is made up of two main islands. I only went to the north island. My friend lived in Palmerston North. I enjoyed seeing the Manawatu River and the Victoria Esplanade Gardens there.

My friend and I drove around the north island, visiting Lake Taupo, the Waikato River, Huka Falls, the Otorohanga Kiwi House, the Hamilton Gardens, and Mount Maunganui.

We also got to visit a goat dairy farm and a cow dairy farm. It was the first time I had ever been to farms like these. It was an interesting experience.

I also got a chance to make Hangi, a traditional New Zealand meal.

After saying goodbye to my friend, I made my way to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

I only stayed in Wellington for a short time, before taking the train to Auckland. The train I rode on is called the Northern Explorer. I highly recommend it. You get to see the beauty of the New Zealand countryside.

Once in Auckland, I explored the city. I just happened to be there during the celebration of the Chinese new year.

From Auckland, I took day-trip tours with Viator to different places. One day, I went to the Waitomo Caves (with glowworms inside) as well as Rotorua (a geothermal area and a place that celebrates Maori culture).

Another day, I took a day-trip tour with Viator to “Hobbiton”.

I also took a day-trip tour with Viator to the Bay of Islands.

Before leaving New Zealand, I was able to hold a magnificent silver fern.

And, while I was there, I saw lots of sheep.

One day, I hope to return to New Zealand, so that I may again experience the warmth of the people, the richness of the culture, and the serenity of the land.
