In April of 2025, I went to Easter Island. It took quite a while to get there. It’s a 4-and-a-half-hour flight from Santiago, Chile. But once I got there, I was glad that I had made the trip.
I went on Tourradar’s “Easter Island Discovery (4 days)” tour. The first day, after being picked up from the airport and after checking into my hostel, I had some free time to explore the town of Hanga Roa. I went snorkeling and relaxed in a café, enjoying the tranquility of the town.

On my second day on Easter Island, I took two half day tours. On the first tour, I went to Orongo, Vinapu, and Rano Kau. Orongo is the site of the bird-man competition, a traditional ritual competition to determine who would be the next ruler of the island for a year. The competition was held every year. Vinapu is the site of an impressive ahu, or platform. Rano Kau is an extinct volcano near Orongo.

On the second tour of the day, I went to Puna Pau, Ahu Akivi, and Tahai. Puna Pau was a quarry used to make the top knots of the statues. Ahu Akivi and Tahai are both areas where you can see the moais (statues) sitting atop ahus (platforms).

On my third day on Easter Island, I took a full day tour. I went to Akahanga, Rano Raraku, Ahu Tongariki, Ahu Nau Nau, and Anakena. Akahanga has several toppled moais. Rano Raraku was the quarry where the moais were made. Many unfinished moais can be found at this location. Ahu Tongariki has fifteen moais on an ahu. Ahu Nau Nau is the site of a few moais standing near the beach of Anakena. Anakena is a beautiful beach with decent snorkeling.

On my fourth and final day on Easter Island, I just relaxed in a café in Hanga Roa before flying out. It was a short trip, but a good one.
Easter Island is a magical place, filled with tradition and mystery. It’s a place of discovery, where the past comes alive.
