For a good while, one of my life goals was to visit all seven continents. I had managed to make it to the other six before the Covid pandemic, but my plans to travel to Antarctica were cut short. After waiting for several years, I was finally able to make it to the White Continent in January of 2023. I actually got Covid while on the trip, but not before I had some amazing experiences.

I flew to Ushuaia, Argentina, and then from there I took a cruise ship to the Antarctic Peninsula. It took two days to get to Antartica via the Drake Passage. I did get a bit seasick, but never to the point of losing my lunch.

The morning I arrived in Antarctica was surreal. I got to see the place with my own eyes, and it was an incredible sight. I was able to ride in a raft and walk on the snow-covered landscape. On land, I saw a Gentoo Penguin colony. In the water, I saw Humpback Whales.

On the second day, I got to visit Port Lockroy, where a post office is located. I sent a postcard to my mom. I also saw more Gentoo Penguins, as well as a penguin being chased by a seal.

One of my favorite things that I did on this trip was to go camping. While we didn’t have a campfire or roast marshmallows, we did get to sleep on the snow and ice. As you can imagine, it was cold, so we had to stay covered up. We didn’t have tents, but we did have sleeping bags. And because it was summer, it never got dark.

Other animals that I saw on the trip were Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Adelie Penguins, Chinstrap Penguins, Leopard Seals, Weddell Seals, and Killer Whales (Orca).

The icebergs and landscapes that I saw were truly amazing.

I got Covid toward the end of the trip, but I was still able to look out the window and, once a day, I was allowed to go to outside onto an isolated deck. Though the trip didn’t end the way I had planned, it was still an unforgettable experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

To make it to Antarctica, I went on Tourradar’s “Best of Antarctica (Ocean Endeavour)” tour. Tourradar has lots of awesome tours to Antarctica. Check them out!

Another operator that I often use when traveling is Viator. Viator has lots of awesome tours, too. Check them out! To view a collection of the experiences that I have personally partaken in and highly recommend, go here.
